EXPERT SURFACE PREPARATION FOR LASTING PROTECTION

40+
Years

Proper surface preparation is critical to the success of any industrial coating system. Neumann Industrial Coatings delivers professional abrasive blasting services using 20/40 garnet media in our purpose-built 20m x 7m x 7m blast room—one of the Gold Coast's largest facilities for surface preparation.

Our experienced blasting operators work to Australian Standards (AS 1627.4-2005), delivering Sa 2, Sa 2.5, and Sa 3 blast classifications to suit your specific coating system requirements. Whether you're preparing marine vessels, truck bodies, structural steel, or industrial equipment, we create the optimal surface profile for maximum coating adhesion and long-term protection.

From small components to complete vessels and vehicle bodies, our large-scale facility handles projects of all sizes. We work closely with you to determine the appropriate blast grade for your application, ensuring your coating system performs as intended in its service environment.

KEEPING CRITICAL WATER TREATMENT EQUIPMENT RUNNING RELIABLY

Neumann Water specialises in mechanical fitting and maintenance for water treatment plants, desalination facilities and wastewater operations across Australia. Our experienced mechanical fitters deliver pump rebuilds, horizontal laser alignment, rotating equipment maintenance and precision fitting services that minimise downtime and extend asset life.

We understand that unplanned equipment failures can severely impact your operations and water supply commitments. Our team provides rapid response breakdown support, planned maintenance programs and comprehensive overhauls delivered with rigorous safety standards and full technical documentation.

All mechanical fitting work is performed by qualified tradespeople with extensive water industry experience. We specialise in working with duplex and super duplex stainless steel (2507/S32750), understand the unique requirements of potable water applications, and deliver all work with comprehensive JSEA documentation.

COMPREHENSIVE ABRASIVE BLASTING SERVICES

GARNET ABRASIVE BLASTING

We use garnet garnet abrasive media for all blasting operations. Garnet delivers excellent cutting performance, creating the ideal surface profile for coating adhesion while minimising dust and providing a clean, consistent finish. This abrasive is suitable for steel, ductile iron, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals, preparing surfaces effectively for primer and coating application.

Key Benefits:

    Excellent cutting performance and efficiency.
  • Image
Consistent surface profile for optimal coating adhesion.
  • Image
Low dust generation in controlled environment.
  • Image
Suitable for all ferrous metal substrates.

15M X 7M X 7M BLAST ROOM FACILITY

Our purpose-built blast room measures 15 metres long, 7 metres wide, and 7 metres tall—providing the capacity to handle truck bodies, marine vessels, large fabrications, and complete assemblies. The controlled environment ensures consistent results, containment of abrasive media, and safe working conditions for our operators. Projects too large for the blast room can be assessed for on-site blasting where conditions permit.

BLASTING TO AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS

All abrasive blasting work is performed to AS 1627.4-2005 (Standards for Surface Preparation). We deliver three primary blast classifications: Sa 2 (commercial blast clean), Sa 2.5 (near-white blast clean), and Sa 3 (white metal blast clean). The appropriate classification is selected based on your coating system requirements, service environment, and manufacturer specifications. Our team provides expert advice to ensure you get the right surface preparation for your application.

Key Benefits:

  • Image
    Compliance with AS 1627.4-2005 standards.
  • Image
Sa 2, Sa 2.5, and Sa 3 classifications available.
  • Image
Expert advice on blast grade selection.
  • Image
Proper surface profile for coating systems.

UNDERSTANDING BLAST CLASSIFICATIONS

SA 2 - COMMERCIAL BLAST CLEAN

Also known as commercial blast clean, Sa 2 removes mill scale, rust, and coating layers, leaving up to 5% of the original surface with slight shadows or discolouration. Suitable for standard atmospheric coating systems and general industrial applications.

SA 2.5 - NEAR-WHITE BLAST CLEAN

The most commonly specified classification, Sa 2.5 removes virtually all mill scale, rust, and contaminants, leaving minimal traces (less than 5% of surface showing slight staining). Ideal for most industrial coating systems including marine and immersion applications.

SA 3 - WHITE METAL BLAST CLEAN

The highest level of surface preparation, Sa 3 removes all visible mill scale, rust, coating, and foreign matter, leaving a uniform metallic appearance. Required for high-performance coating systems and severe service environments.
